No money for an exotic summer vacation? No problem. “Drinkee” is Sofi Tukker’s debut song, the lyrics come from a poem written by a Brazilian poet, Chacal. It’s an incredible mix of bossa nova, deep house, folk, Kundalini yoga, percussions, sensual and sinuous beats. Already Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune on BBC Radio 1, among the favourites of The Chainsmokers and Michael Calfan. It’s out with remixes by Addal, Dinnerdate and The Knocks.
Sofi Tukker is a New York-based duo based: Sophie (Hawley-Weld) and Tucker (Halpern). She grew up traveling and living around the world, teaching yoga and feeling Brazilian at heart. He grew up drumming and is a former collegiate basketball player. They met at an art gallery while attending university and quickly began making music, only later becoming friends.
According to Sophie: “It doesn’t matter whether or not you can understand Portuguese. The point of “Drinkee” isn’t the meaning; the point is the nonsense”. Let’s then be carried away by this beautiful and overwhelming nonsense.
